How interactions between tropical depressions and western disturbances affect heavy precipitation in South Asia

چکیده
Abstract Interactions over South Asia between tropical depressions (TDs) and extratropical storms known as western disturbances (WDs) are to cause extreme precipitation events, including those responsible for the 2013 floods northern India. In this study, existing databases of WD TD tracks used identify potential WD–TD interactions from 1979–2015; these filtered according proximity intensity, leaving 59 cases which form basis paper. Synoptic charts, vorticity budgets, moisture trajectory analyses employed elucidate common interaction types among cases. Two broad families emerge. Firstly, a dynamical coupling TD, whereby either upper- lower-level vortices superpose (a vortex merger ), or is intensified it passes into entrance region jet streak associated with jet-streak excitation ). Secondly, exchange anomalous advected WD, resulting in near TD-to-WD WD-to-TD most post-monsoon period subtropical jet, brings WDs subcontinent, returns south; there smaller peak May June, driven by monsoon onset vortices. Precipitation heaviest dynamically-coupled interactions, particularly excitations. Criteria automated identification proposed, schematics each type presented highlight key mechanisms.

How Does Inflow of FDI Affect Economic Growth in East Asia?
In this paper, we address the question that does FDI alone affect economic growth or interaction of FDI and human capital is required to boost economic growth. We develop the model with an expanding variety of products. We estimate the model using some advanced tests utilizing data on FDI flows from developed countries. We find stronger complementary effects between FDI and human capital on the...
متن کاملSpatial structures and directionalities in Monsoonal precipitation over South Asia
Precipitation during the monsoon season over the Indian subcontinent occurs in form of enormously complex spatiotemporal patterns due to the underlying dynamics of atmospheric circulation and varying topography. Employing methods from nonlinear time series analysis, we study spatial structures of the rainfall field during the summer monsoon and identify principle regions where the dynamics of m...
متن کاملHow do Sudden Stops of Capital Flows Affect Currency Crises in Asia?
Sudden stops can be characterized by sharp reversals in capital inflows, large declines in output, and steep collapses in real asset prices (Mendoza and Smith, 2009). In almost all recent crises, capital account reversals amounting to more than 10% of an afflicted country’s GDP have occurred (Calvo and Reinhart, 1999 and Nabli, 1999). More specifically, reversals in capital flows to emergin...

15 صفحه اولOn the Dynamics of Easterly Waves , Monsoon Depressions , and Tropical Depression Type Disturbances
The authors argue that certain aspects of the rotational, synoptic-scale disturbances of the wind field that are observed in ITCZ or monsoon trough regions can be understood by considering the linear response of a dry, initially resting atmosphere to a pulse of heating whose amplitude and spatial and temporal scales are characteristic of a large mesoscale convective system. The key points are t...
